Tough As Her

If you’re like me, you need extra motivation to get moving first thing in the morning. There are times in the morning when my extra motivation comes from my wife kicking me until I get out of bed and out for a run.
I find myself asking, “Did I run long enough? Was it far enough? Was it fast enough?” but then I remember that with Tough as Her, those questions don’t really matter.
Last year I was with team members and one in particular that was having a VERY difficult time on the course. To make matters worse they were loaded down with guilt, feeling like they were holding up the team.
I walked over to where they were sitting down catching their breath and said, “I have a friend who sprinted the entire course and got over every obstacle by themselves. It took them way less than three hours to complete the course.”
My friend looked at me and said, “WHY ARE YOU TELLING ME THIS!?!?!” To which I calmly replied, “Because you are going to get the same headband and t-shirt he does.”
Nobody checks your time. Nobody cares how much help you had at the obstacles – or if you decided to skip some. The point is that you are there. You are trying. You are facing it. THAT is what Tough As Her is about. Coming together and simply showing up and trying.
So today I ran. Did I do it long enough? Was it far enough? Was it fast enough? It was for today.
